Two Songs

(1973, 1974)
Composed in two successive years as stand-alone songs, they may also be performed as a set. The poems for both were written by my father, J. Ross Albert, and each marks a significant change in his family. “Winter Monarch” memorializes the death and burial of his father, in the cold, bleak January of 1972. The birth of his first grandchild (my son) in October 1974 was the inspiration for “Lullaby.”
